Yo Gabba Gabba Cupcakes
Contributed by Bonnie Brooks, Washington State, United StatesYo Gabba Gabba has to be the coolest new kids show around and my son absolutely LOVES it. So we decided to do a Yo Gabba Gabba theme for his First Birthday Party. I used to work as a cake decorator years ago, so I figured I'd give the cupcakes a shot and they turned out great! Materials: Approx 3 lbs of butter cream icing (depending on amount of cupcakes, I did 50) Wilton disposable plastic icing bags size small mini marshmallows butter knife or mini angled Wilton icing spatula clean kitchen scissors gel coloring in green, yellow, red, blue, black & pink (pink is optional since you can use a little red instead)
I started out by coloring a little bit of icing in black and putting it in an icing bag for details (pupils & mouths). I left the excess black icing in the bowl & added a little more icing to make some grey for Plex's grey parts. Put the grey icing in a bag as well and snip the ends off each bag. Next, wash out and dry your bowl and do the same with some red icing. You'll need some red in an icing bag for Muno's bumps. Muno Cover cupcake with a generous layer of red icing. Using white icing in an icing bag draw one big eye in the center of the cupcake. Add a pupil and a crescent shape mouth with black, add teeth with white and then add at least 5 randomly placed bumps with red to the surface of the cupcake and you're done! Save the rest of the red in the icing bag for Brobee! Brobee Cover cupcake with a generous layer of bright green icing. Snip one marshmallow in half and arrange on face. Use red to pipe the three horns on top of his head and his mouth (frown or smiley) using black, pipe the black line for his mouth, his pupils and his uni-brow and VOILA! You're finished! Plex Cover cupcake with a generous layer of yellow icing. Using black icing draw a rectangle shape in black in the middle of the cupcake and fill in with black icing. Snip one marshmallow in half and arrange in the black rectangle. Using the grey icing pipe out a long-ish trapezoid under the eyes, two bar shapes on the right and left of the eyes and a three tier pyramid shape above the eyes. Switch back to the black icing and pipe a smiley mouth in the trapezoid shape, pupils on the marshmallows and black antennas coming out of each of the other grey shapes as seen in the picture. Using the red icing from Muno, make the red light at the top of Plex's antenna (see picture). When you're done icing the Plex cupcakes put the rest of the yellow in an icing bag for the center of Foofa's flower. Foofa Cover cupcake with a generous layer of pink icing. Snip a marshmallow in half and arrange on the face. Take some of your leftover pink icing and add some white to make a lighter color pink for her nose and flower and put it in an icing bag. Snip the end and pipe out 6 flower petals and her nose. Use the yellow for the center of the flower and pipe on a red mouth add black pupils and you're all done! Toodee Cover cupcake with a generous layer of blue icing. Add some blue to an icing bag for her ears (snip the end at a bit of an angle & a little larger than the rest) and set aside. Use left over icing and use a little of it mixed with white icing to make a lighter blue for her facial details and add it to an icing bag, snip the end and set aside. Snip a marshmallow in half and arrange on face, using dark blue pipe on ears. Using black add nose, pupils and mouth. Use light blue to add three small triangles on both sides of face as seen in picture. Now you're done!
