Cupcake Decorating Made Easy

Cupcake decorating can be fun. Especially when you're creative and you know the right techniques, the cupcakes can be decorated with limitless designs and colors.

Of course, the first few attempts may not turn out the way you expected it, but with practice, you will achieve the desired results.

Here are some of things you can use to decorate your cupcake.

Icing

The most commonly used for cake decorating, including cupcake decorating. There are two types of icing, one is buttercream icing and the other is royal icing.

Basic color is white, but by using coloring, you can turn it into any color you want to achieve the design you want. The thickness must be controlled, however, to achieve smooth consistency so that the design stays on the cupcake.

Fondant

Fondant is also a form of icing, but hardens when cooled and can be kept. When you need to use it, you can reheat it and simply pour over the cupcakes and let it cool.

The result will be a smooth surfaced cupcake and decorating will be easier from this point.

Fondant can also be rolled or folded when it is in its 'soft' state. So, it can be used as a topping for the cupcake.

Marzipan

Marzipan is like edible clay. It is made of sugar and ground almonds. Can be made into any color and molded into any shape, up to your creativity.

Gumpaste

Gumpaste is also like modelling clay. Can be molded into any desired shapes like flowers or ribbons for cupcake decorating.

When it dries, it becomes hard and brittle. So when accidentally dropped, it may break. When it is hardened, it can also be painted on.

They also last quite long, too.

Sprinkles

One of the most commonly used cupcake topping. Available in multi-colors, like below...

or just plain chocolate sprinkles. They also come in cute shapes as well, like stars or hearts.

Shining Beads

These edible beads can also be used to decorate your cupcake. Because they are shiny, your cupcakes will look more dramatic.

Dessicated Coconut

Grated coconut can be sprinkled over icing on your cupcake for decorating.

However, your cupcake will have a coconut-ty taste when you use it to decorate.

M&M's

These are round chocolate candies. Available in multi-colors like blue, red, yellow, orange, green and chocolate.

You can also use other chocolate candy that you desire.

Jello

Other than chocolate, you can also use jellos. They come in various colors and shapes as well. Matching them to your cupcake design may not be a problem.

Cupcake Toppers

Cupcake toppers are readily available from the cake store or you can make your own. They are available in all sorts of shapes, including favourite characters. They really make your cupcake decorating easy.

Just place them on top of your cupcake and you won't need much decorating to do. If you don't have time to decorate your cupcakes, cupcake toppers can be your solution.

You can use from edible toppers like royal icing toppers and candy toppers to non-edible toppers like plastic toppers and candle toppers.

Chocolate Chips

Instead of putting chocolate chips into the cupcake recipe, it can also be used as decoration.

It's dark and round shape is very useful for making eyes for animal cupcakes.

Sanding Sugar

Sanding sugar is actually real sugar but colored. They are available in multiple colors, red, blue , yellow, etc.

They are shiny and make a lovely decorations as well.
